Chris Davies in the European Parliament
Chris Davies serves on the Bureau ('cabinet') of the Alliance
of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Group (88 MEPs), and he represents
his colleagues at official meetings of Liberal Democrat parliamentarians
in the UK.
Chris also speaks for the party on environment issues and serves on
the European Parliament's Environment
Committee, which considers and amends draft EU legislation on
environment and public health matters. It is one of the law-making
committees insomuch as in these spheres the Parliament has equal powers
to those of the Council of Ministers.
Chris has been actively involved in developing directives on a
wide range of subjects, most notably climate change issues, waste
management policies, chemicals legislations, water and air quality
laws, GMOs and the sale of tobacco.
The UK Liberal Democrats are part of the Alliance
of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the Parliament.
This is the third largest political group and comprises 88 members
from liberal parties in 19 EU countries.
Until the accession of Cyprus to the EU Chris served for five
years on the EU-Cyprus
Joint Parliamentary Committee. He is now a member of the Parliament's
delegation to Palestine.
Amongst many interests Chris is a supporter of the Parliament's
all-party group on animal welfare issues.
