BNP finances probed by election watchdog

The UK election watchdog has asked North West MEP Nick Griffin’s British National Party for more financial details after auditors refused to sign off their accounts.

The BNP accounts were submitted after the legal deadline to the UK Electoral Commission but the BNP’s own auditors refused to give them a clean bill of health.

The auditors opinion clearly states that the accounts do not give a ‘true and fair view’ of BNP finances and also stated that ‘it cannot be said that the accounts comply with the requirements of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000’. This is the law that governs political parties in the UK.

The Electoral Commission is now in “discussions” with the BNP about their accounts.

Chris Davies, the North West Liberal Democrat Euro-MP has been campaigning for financial transparency in politics.

Davies said, “Every political party in the UK has to obey the same laws and the BNP has failed miserably yet again.

“If the BNP can’t even look after its own bank accounts then what makes them think they have any solutions for the problems the country faces.”

The full set of accounts can be found on the Electoral Commission website at the following link:
