Davies Gets Top Euro-Parliament Job
North West MEP Chris Davies has been appointed as the team leader and spokesman for the European Liberal (ALDE) group on the influential Environment Committee in the European Parliament.
The Liberals are the third largest group on the Environment and Public Health Committee. Their votes are often decisive as no party has an overall majority on the body.
Davies will now lead the seven-strong Liberal group on the committee over the next 5 years, giving the North West a seat at the top levels of European decision making on climate change, protecting our natural environment and ensuring the the EU creates new jobs and takes the green road out of the recession.
Said Davies, "Threats to our environment don't stop at national borders and the EU is a powerful force for improving the quality of our environment across the North West, across the UK and across the continent. I am humbled by the support of my colleagues from Liberal parties across Europe to take forward this exciting work."
In recent months, Davies has been recognised by the European Voice newspaper and the EURELECTRIC pan-European trade organisation as one of the most hardworking champions of the environment in the European Parliament.
